Carrying Out My GAME Plan

As I continue to learn more about the NETS-T standards and formulate these indicators into my GAME plan, I reflect on the standards that I have looked more closely at.

  • For the first standard, Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity, I focused on the indicator that states that I will "promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness" (International Society for Technology in Education, 2008).
  • The second standard chosen, was to "Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership." The chosen indicator that I would participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning" (International Society for Technology in Education, 2008).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Resources to carry out GAME plan...
I want to continue to promote creativity in my classroom. For my students to keep learning, I need to keep learning. In order to do so, I need to use resources that can benefit both me and my students. As far as learning more ways of incorporating creativity in my classroom through the use of technology, it is important for me to look more closely at the second standard, which is to engage in professional growth. By attending and participating in workshops, I will be able to improve the use of technology for my students. It is important for me to create lesson plans and activities that allow students to grow in these areas. By visiting other classrooms and discussing ideas with fellow teachers, I am able to see what type of technology they too are using in their classrooms to promote creativity and a deeper level of thinking.

Additional information...
I need to continue to learn more about how I can continue to go to workshops that will allow me to reach my goals and GAME plan as a teacher. I would also like to see what technological tools I can use in my classroom whether we have the tool, like a document camera, at school or if it is something that I can write a grant for. I would also like to continue my knowledge on sites like delicious and other web pages that can benefit my students to gain valid information off the Internet. I want my students to be challenged and become creative learners. It is important for them to use technology, but use it in a safe way.

Steps taken so far...
I have used the knowledge of our media specialist and technology teacher, to find out more ways of incorporating the use of technology with my students. Collaborating with your peers is a great way to keep learning. Sharing knowledge and individual skills with other teachers can benefit the situation and teaching styles in many ways.

  1. Keeping ourselves up to date on current trends and practices is critical for teachers. The more that we learn and grow, the more we can help our students to do the same. Like you, I am also focusing on adding more technology into the curriculum. My biggest struggle, however, has been the filters, access to computers, and also the fact that most applications require students to have an email address. I recently tried to have students use Googledocs in class, however, not all students had an email address. My next step is to determine how I can get students set up with a school email account.

    Good luck!

  2. Elizabeth,

Utilizing collegues within in our own buildings as a resource is one of the best things I have learned to do. These people are there for us every day, they are free, and we trust and feel comfortable with them. I use the media specialist and my colleagues daily and feel some of the best information I learn is from them.

You are smart to have professional growth as one of your goals. I think it is so important for teachers to stay up to date on new information in education. We are practicing what we preach, "learning is fun, essential, never ending, and a life long endeavor".

My students appreciate that I learn for them, that I am human and go through the same struggles as them.

Good luck with your goals and know that all of your hard work and professional growth is worth it, because your students will have a better teacher!

    Thanks,
    Tiffany

  3. Hi Christina,

Thanks for your response. I was thinking about your challenges with your students not having email accounts. Do you know about gaggle? With the help of our technology teacher, we were able to create gaggle.net accounts for each of my students. It is a safe online email address for students to access. This way, I can email them with classroom updates and they can email me or their classmates with homework questions. You may want to look into it!

    Good luck!

  4. Hi Tiffany,

Thank you for your response. I too am happy that I am working on professional growth. I think it is important to keep learning myself so that I can continue to help my students. I think it is important to grow in our profession so that we can become better teachers!

Good luck to you as well!

  5. It sounds like you are well on your way to meeting your goals. I think using your media specialist is a great idea. I don't think to use ours as often as I should. I think that's because I have a mindset that math doesn't need to take place in a library, but that's obviously wrong!
I also think that it's neat to see the comments and suggestions of our peers during this blog experience. A neat way to get creative ideas out of students is to see what interests them and how they might use technology to accomplish that. The students might give you some ideas that you haven't thought of before.

  6. Hey Elizabeth,

Great job on addressing your next steps. In addition to using your Media Specialist as well as writing grants for new technologies, don't forget a valuable source...your students! I'm sometimes amazed at what my students are using technologically. From hardware to software, a good group of my students is using something I hadn't heard of or knew little about.

  7. Your statement about going to professional development opportunities is something that fits into my plan as well. I have often found though that through my district the opportunities for technology professional development tend to be geared towards introductory learners. I often feel very frustrated about what I expected to get out of the experience and what I actually gained.
